LOOKING for a heartwarming way to spread love this Mandela Month? Then look no further as the Isiaiah 54 Children’s Sanctuary, a place of safety for abused and abandoned children in Bluff, needs your help.

The home is appealing to residents to become involved in helping the children in their care by donating or getting involved in projects at the home this Mandela Month. As a registered non-profit public benefit organisation, the sanctuary relies solely on donations as they are not government funded.

The sanctuary’s Youandi Gilain, said there are children from newborn upwards who are often brought in by the police and social workers under harsh circumstances. “The children stay with us until other solutions are found, such family, short term or long term care. Our job is to love, shelter, feed and care for them, which is an absolute blessing. We have many ways in which residents can get involved. There is a wish list where those who are able to, can donate what we need. We also require five rooms to be painted in light grey. Other odds and ends that need repairs or attendance is building rubble which needs to be removed, the jojo tank filter needs to be replaced and we need new children’s toilet seats. For those that are culinary driven, we also have meal donations where meals can be sponsored,” said Gilain.

The sanctuary is also involved in Open Arms SA, an online crisis pregnancy centre, where mothers are informed about their options so they can make informed decisions as well have have access to emotional support, and the Thembayo Baby Saver box in the wall provides a place for desperate mothers to leave their baby anonymously.

Residents can also donate to the sanctuary’s pets, who all play a role in teaching the children unconditional love, trust and kindness. The sanctuary is home to three dogs, one cat and three birds.
