SAFE Fostering Network, an animal rescue organisation that was initiated earlier this year, is looking for funding to get 19 pups and two adult dogs into foster homes.

Speaking from her home in uMhlanga, Kerry Janke, one of the directors, said the organisation is based in Durban, and is standing up to play its part in seeing change for thousands of homeless, abused, and neglected dogs in KZN.

“We were contacted recently about 19 pups and two adult dogs in dire situations. They are at various properties. We need to uplift them and get them to the vet urgently for medical intervention and to put them into foster. We are trying to get funds to pick them up and get them the treatment they need,” said Janke.

She said an average healthy pup costs SAFE around R3 000 from the time they are uplifted to the time they are adopted.

“This cost covers vet check, vaccinations, dewormer, microchip, shampoo, bed, food for four weeks, a bowl and blanket. A sick pup averages an additional R5 000 each,” she added.

“We have the fosters, we have the ability to save these guys – we just need to get in the funds to cover a rescue this big,” added Janke.
